In March 2025, we began working on three new sites in Billesley, creating new partnerships and friendships whilst doing so. Expanding the villages into new areas will create new volunteering opportunities, strengthening the community by bringing people together and providing new green assets to local people.
Billesley orchard plantings took place on:
1st March with Ways for Wellbeing, at Ways for Wellbeing Orchard, 25+ people attended to plant 3 damsons, including Cllr Huxtable.
23rd March with Friends of Swanshurst Park, at Swanshurst Park Orchard, 22+ people attended to plant 5 trees, including Cllr Iroh.
5th April with Friends of Billesley Common, Billesley ARK, and Greencoat Nursery, at Billesley Common Orchard, 46+ people attended to plant several apples, 1 plum, and 1 pear tree.
This will make roughly 75+ attendances so far, which we are thrilled about, as well as the new groups we've worked with; we want to reach as many local people as we can, spreading joy with nature, as we establish a new Fruit & Nut Village here in Billesley.

In the coming months (and years), we hope to continue developing orchards, forest gardens and other perennial growing spaces across the neighbourhood. Perhaps sooner rather than later we will have a new Fruit & Nut Village here. Residents will be trained in pruning, and other useful outdoor skills, to help us on our quest with these green spaces. We hope to celebrate these sites with Wassails, storytelling, picnics, and other community events. This is just the beginning: we hope that the work grows and grows.
To get involved, we have a WhatsApp group for Billesley, and you can email us to be added, as well as joining our mailing list to receive the monthly Bulletin. Our events are also advertised on the Events page, as well as our social media channels. We hope to see you at a workshop here soon!
