A Volunteer Development Day!

Our wonderful volunteers were treated to a free day out at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens (BBG), as part of our partnership work with the ‘Trees over Time’ project. The day involved a guided tour of the gardens to learn about its history and heritage, a practical workshop on tree surveying with Birmingham TreePeople, and free lunch!

Trees over Time

The Trees over Time project involves BBG’s auditing their 500 plus trees to measure their age and overall health. This information will help inform the city’s tree planting in the future by providing data on tree health and resilience as our climate changes. As a project partner, Fruit & Nut Village have supported engagement events to share the work, meaning we’ve been able to offer free training opportunities to our volunteers!

Here’s what one of our dedicated volunteers had to say about the day:

“If you want to look after something, you have to know it, and we are getting to know these trees.”

Apple, anyone?

As part of our ‘Trees over Time’ partnership, we recently took part in an outreach event at BBG, where we had a selection of heritage apples for people to try… just like some of the varieties we plant in our orchards! We had some ‘fruitful’ conversations, and enjoyed sharing the work we do with all who attended.
