Who We Are

Fruit & Nut Village CIO is a charity based in Birmingham, growing orchards and perennial food spaces, and working with local communities to develop a range of edible landscapes. We manage almost 100 growing spaces in total, across Balsall Heath, Druids Heath and Stirchley, but are also currently expanding into Lozells and Billesley.

Despite the severely scorched grassland that spread into The Green Forest Garden, we are happy to say that most of our young trees and saplings will make a full recovery, as long as they're well looked after.

We have a session here on Friday 25th September, 10am to 12pm, where we can start to restore the fire damaged site to its former glory.

We appreciate all the help we can get, and are incredibly grateful for all the support and kindness we've been shown during this time. We look forward with hope that this is not the new norm. 🌳

A little more comfortable than it has been recently at #PebbleMill #ForestGarden with temperatures now in the 20s! We still needed to water though, as the ground is incredibly dry thanks to the drought. If you'd like to join our area WhatsApp groups to help us water our many sites, please let us know, as your help and kindness is much appreciated during this difficult time.

A little Saturday pruning and mulching at #NewlandsRun last Saturday morning in #Stirchley.

One of our Trustees has been to assess the site damage after the fire yesterday at The Green Forest Garden in Druids Heath.

As you can see from the footage, despite many of our trees having survived, the fire has caused extensive scorching across the land. It has broken our hearts. This small patch of land holds a big place in people's hearts, like our volunteers who came to work here every month, and our staff who put their heart and soul into caring for the forest garden.

We are aware of the larger blaze that took place at Daisy Farm Park, and our hearts go out to our friends there and the homes surrounding the park, that have tragically been burned. This is a very sad time, but we are grateful for all the support we've received.

#EmergencyWatering in #Stirchley at #HazelwellNutGrove and #KingdomForestGarden recently, as well as our regularly site care sessions, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who has continued to help us keep the plants alive during the heatwaves!

Stirchley's Woodland Games returns once more!

Saturday 12th September 2026 | 1 pm to 4 pm | @brumbrewery

Fruit & Nut Village will be helping @hipkissandgraney this year with their spectacular Woodland Games, and we're asking our volunteers to play a big part. They have rejigged the idea of the games, but it's just as ambitious, curious, and silly as ever!

The idea of the Woodland Games was conceived in 2021, as a way for local artists to draw greater attention to the ideas and hard work of Fruit & Nut Village. Revising exactly how we can do this better, this year the games will be hosted at Birmingham Brewing Company - rather than Hazelwell Park - and have one gigantic game rather than two or three smaller ones.

The game they have created this year is called The Great River Rea Run, and it is a huge game of capture the flag, consisting of 4 teams. Each team will have a den at Brewing Co. which will be their base. 23 orchards dotted around Stirchley hold a banner held by a volunteer. The teams, using a beautifully designed map of all the orchard sites, race across Stirchley to capture as many flags as they can within 90 minutes. The victor is the team with the most flags. This challenge will mean players with a keen knowledge of the Fruit & Nut Village sites have an advantage...

We are asking for help from volunteers to be banner carriers. Your role would be to be positioned at the orchard until one of the team arrives and takes the banner, then you would come back to the brewery!

We really hope to see you all there either as a volunteer or as part of the audience. There's always lots of music, live coverage of the teams, and lots of fun.

Despite the recent challenges for the Friends of Stechford Hall Park, we have cleared, watered and mulched all 20 trees in the park's orchard last week. New cages and posts were added where necessary, and everyone enjoyed a delicious meal together. Thank you to everyone who helped, especially the generous friends group!

Fruit & Nut Village #Billesley is taking off, and we have more lovely sessions here with Friends of Trittiford and Friends of The Dingles this month.

Stone Fruit Tree Pruning Workshop

Saturday 8th August 2026 | 9 am to 12 pm

Please join us to prune the stone fruits in our first row of trees here. As well as this, we plan to move woodchip to mulch any trees needing it.
