Who We Are

Fruit & Nut Village CIO is a charity based in Birmingham, growing orchards and perennial food spaces, and working with local communities to develop a range of edible landscapes. We manage almost 100 growing spaces in total, across Balsall Heath, Druids Heath and Stirchley, but are also currently expanding into Lozells and Billesley.

We spent some time last week caring for #PennyacreOrchards in #DruidsHeath with our lovely volunteers, clearing around the bases of our fruit trees across our three orchards.

Tidying up #HazelwellRiverbankOrchard in #Stirchley and giving it a good prune this week!

We carried out our #StoneFruitPruning this week at #BroadmeadowOrchard, and we'll be running more #FruitTreePruning in #Stirchley all month if you'd like to join us.

We've been back to #ImmanuelChurch in #HightersHeath this week to care for the #ForagingHedge in our #FruitAndNutVillage #DruidsHeath! We had a great team of volunteers with us, as you can see! Many little hands make light work.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT 📢

Fruit & Nut Village now manage over 100 growing spaces in our Birmingham Villages!

Across Stirchley, Balsall Heath, Druids Heath, Billesley, and beyond we have worked with almost the same amount of partners during our time as a charity, building bridges and relationships across Birmingham.

We wouldn’t be managing this many growing spaces without our valuable partners (who many of these sites belong to, inviting us into their green spaces), funders (who have made all our work possible to begin with), and of course our dedicated volunteers (who show up every week and work incredibly hard learning and honing their skills), and we want to thank each and every one of you for helping us get to this point.

We had a lovely session in the sunshine at #SouthernDriveForestGarden in #Monyhull last week, and we're back here on 18th and 25th June if you'd like to visit this fantastic growing space.

We've been developing our growing space and friendship at Apna Ghar Forest Garden this week with wonderful people in #BalsallHeath.

#StartTheWeek at #KingdomForestGarden yesterday with some #PrunusPruning, as well as weeding, shearing, and raking. Keeping the gardens looking beautiful for the summer.

We were at @stans_cafe on Thursday working with #SellyOakTrustSchool. The propagation work is coming along really well.

Wow! The weather has changed at #PebbleMill #ForestGarden. We watered throughout the session, planted 30 plants, weeded and edged, and got some beautiful rewards for it! Back again on Sunday 7th June.

We worked on a new site in #Billesley last week, Scribers Lane Allotments, helping local people look after the small orchard here. The summer began as we cleared brambles and ash and carried out remedial work on the orchard.

We walked from #PebbleMillPlayingFields #ForestGarden to #KingdomForestGarden for our wonderful contribution to the @urbantreefest last weekend, viewing 300 of Birmingham's finest publicly-accessible #FruitAndNutVillage trees.

We worked hard the day before to get the site looking beautiful for the walk, and it has been a lovely couple of days celebrating trees and the urban forest. Thank you to everyone who came along and to UTF for having our events as part of the UK festival.

We had a lovely staff meeting today, and we started it off by doing the Echoes walk that's available on our website: from Bournville Station all the way to Pebble Mill Forest Garden, you can visit a multitude of our growing spaces in #Stirchley.

Walking between the sites consecutively, you can see how many trees and edible perennials have been planted for our community to benefit from, driving biodiversity, accessibility, and cohesion for the people and plants that live here.

We're making an increased effort to keep #BullfinchForestGarden in #Stirchley looking beautiful and accessible over this summer. We'll be hear regularly keeping the paths open, fruit trees clear, and beds weeded.
